Growing up, Mica Linz was immersed in imaginary worlds, especially those of Jim Henson. Their work is informed by a fascination with natural history and obsession with fantasy. In their free time they create costumes based on popular franchises such as the Final Fantasy video games and have developed strong connections in the cosplay (costume-play) community.

Artist Statement

Process, processing, transformation. My art is guided by a love of natural history and obsession with fantasy. I explore worlds of alternative/distorted evolution through 2 and 3 dimensional pieces. I also investigate connections and contradictions: self/other, permanent/ephemeral, companionship/isolation.

Sculpting is a language--a bridge between all that is constantly growing in my brain and external stagnation. It is a channel for externalizing the internal, both revealing and creating new natures and relationships. My practice revolves around an adoration of repetitive actions and the tactile qualities of materials. The work occupies a space between fantasy, science, and identity.
